    • the karneval der kulturen is a 4 day festival in kreuzberg (a neighborhood in what was west berlin) celebrating all of the different groups that have settled in berlin. they close the roads in a large part of town and people set up booths with food (amazing food!) and wares and there are also a number of themed stages (african, latin, turkish, etc) with music and dancing.

      on one of the days there’s a big parade which mostly consists of giant trucks/floats with huge sound systems blasting music. each float has a group of dancers that follow behind but as the parade progresses most of the on-lookers join in.

      we were curious to see if america would be represented – and it was…by one “american doughnut” stand (but they were actually french, i think).
